Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta were very linear and were almost entirely shooting. The magic book quest was more interesting to me than the main quest. I still didn't quite understand what was going on in Point Lookout. The Pitt had a well developed setting, but none of the characters were really developed. The Pitt and Point Lookout felt more like Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay, but they also lacked fully fleshed out characters. Each one of the DLC episodes had something good going for it and also something bad. Comparing it with the core game makes it look terrible, but comparing it with other games makes it not so bad. Even Mothership Zeta looked brown, which was silly because it was well lit and white. My one gripe with Fallout 3 was the brown filter they used for everything. Throughout that time I didn't really feel bored, which is impressive to me as I probably wouldn't have believed that a singleplayer game could stay interesting that long. It took me about 45 hours of time according to the game, which means about 50 hours (I died every once and a while and the game crashed a lot). It had that exploration feel, but the story had real interaction and decision making. It was everything STALKER should have been in my opinion. Having originally posted this thread, I thought it would be good to share my thoughts, having just finished playing Fallout 3 and all five of the DLC episodes. The non-GFWL should be in the root saves directory (on XP it's in My documents\My games\Fallout 3\saves) and GFWL would be in Fallout 3\saves\. I think you just copy the saves over to your GFWL profile folder. So, is there any way around this? Can I force my saves to be uploaded/whatever for GfWL? Most annoying, I beat the game without logging into GfWL- which means that my saves of the completed game do not exist when I login to play the DLC. I could of course had gotten the GOTY, but then I'd own two copies of Fallout 3, even on Steam, and wouldn't be able to gift the second one. Less sad, though still annoying, is that I had to spend another $49.99 on the DLC- granted, that's all 5 DLC packs, but I was hoping to find them listed somewhere else.

Just like the situation I never wanted to get into, I now have to login to Steam (which I don't mind) to open Fallout 3, and then I have to login to Games for Windows Live to access the DLC which I just purchased. Is this like Bioware games where the DLC is completely separate, on their website instead of on the Steam portal?Īannnd question answered.

I have Fallout 3 on Steam, my preferred game manager, but I'm not terribly sure how to get the DLC for it, as nothing is listed on the Steam portal.
